Waltham Fields Community Farm (WFCF) promotes local agriculture through growing and distribution practices that are socially, ecologically, and economically sustainable. We forge relationships between people, their food supply, and the land from which it grows.  We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization running a high intensity mixed vegetable farm, educational and food access programming just outside of Boston.  We adhere strictly to organic methods to manage fifteen acres of farmland.

Field Crew

Waltham Fields Community Farm seeks members for our 2012 Field Crew. The field crew will work to support our farming operation, helping to supply food for our 500-member CSA, community members in need, and for various public events throughout the season.

Qualifications: We seek individuals who are mature, enthusiastic and able to do fast-paced, detail-oriented physical work alongside our experienced core farm staff and volunteers.  Some manual labor or farm experience preferred but not necessary. Applicants should be able to sustain focus & pace through repetitive tasks, work outside in all weather conditions, not mind getting dirty and have a reliable form of transportation to the farm in all weather conditions.  A sense of humor is a definite plus. An on-farm interview is required.

Compensation: $10/hr plus produce from the farm.

Dates: June 18 through September 28, 2012. Ability to commit to full 15 week period required.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm, one-hour lunch, unpaid.

Learning Garden Educator

Waltham Fields Community Farm is looking for a Learning Garden Educator for our spring 2012 Children’s Learning Garden after-school programs.  Our Children’s Learning Garden programs include spring and fall after-school and summer camp sessions for children in grades K-5; Educational Farm Visits for school or community groups; and Family Programs for children ages 0-4 and their caregivers.  The Learning Garden Educator teaches participants about farming and food through games and activities. The Educator position is supervised by the Education and Volunteer Coordinator (EVC) and works with both the EVC and his/her fellow educators to carry out our education programs and maintain our Learning Garden spaces.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with EVC and fellow educators to prepare for programs
  • Lead groups of children in educational farm activities, games, food preparation, and general farm exploration
  • Maintain the Outdoor Classroom and indoor supply areas (i.e. cleaning the kitchen area thoroughly before and after each program, keeping supplies organized, etc.)
  • Assist with program documentation and evaluation through photos, journals, reports and distribution/collection of end-of-program evaluation forms
  • Attend all mandatory training and regular education staff meetings members to debrief and assess programs

Qualifications:

  • Experience and enthusiasm for working with children
  • Knowledge of sustainable farming/gardening as well as hands-on gardening and cooking experience
  • Previous experience working in the field of environmental education and/or outdoor learning environment preferred
  • Friendly, creative, and self-motivated
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification required (can be obtained on the job)

Time Commitment:The Learning Garden Educator position is a part-time temporary seasonal position, from late April through the end of October. Applications will also be accepted for those who do not wish to work all three seasons. Hours vary season-to-season approximately as follows:

Late April-June: 7-15hrs/week

July: 9-15hrs/week

August: 20-40hrs/week

Late September-October: 7-15hrs/week

Compensation: $12/hr plus fresh produce from the farm

Wednesdays, May 9th-June 13th, 3:00-6:00pm

Thursdays, May 10th-June 14th, 3:00-6:00pm

Additional 6-10 hours of orientation prior to May 9th and a few education staff meetings.

Help us make our Sprout 2012 silent auction fundraiser and spring celebration the best ever.  There are a variety of jobs to contribute to, working alongside a fun group of people.  Volunteers needed January through April for pre-event tasks and/or on Saturday evening, April 14th, for day-of-event tasks.
